The NatAmi motherboard is a standard Mini-ITX-compatible form factor computer motherboard, powered by a Motorola/Freescale 68060 and its chipset. It is compatible with the original Amiga chipset, which has been inscribed on a programmable FPGA Altera chip on the board. The NatAmi is the second Amiga clone project after the Minimig motherboard, and its history is very similar to that of the C-One mainboard developed by Jeri Ellsworth and Jens Schönfeld. From a commercial point of view, Natami's circuitry and design are currently closed source. One goal of the NatAmi project is to design an Amiga-compatible motherboard that includes up-to-date features but that does not rely on emulation (as in WinUAE), modern PC Intel components, or a modern PowerPC mainboard. As such, NatAmi is not intended to become another evolutionary heir to classic Amigas, such as with AmigaOne or Pegasos computers. If you ever need more storage space, USB 3.0 and USB-C ports will also let you attach a speedy external hard drive or SSD. Mini-towers and the usual towers, though, can often take a hard drive or two in an empty internal 3.5-inch drive bay if you need bulk storage on the cheap. We've even seen isolated mini-tower models preconfigured with a small SSD as the boot drive, plus a mass-storage hard drive. This is the best of both worlds in a budget config, but you'll have to shop around to find one. Budget machines, whether big or small, almost exclusively come with the integrated graphics built into the CPU, not a discrete Nvidia GeForce or AMD Radeon graphics card. You need a video card for leading-edge gaming experiences or 3D applications, which are several tiers above what these PCs offer. At best, integrated graphics can run some less-demanding games at low detail settings and resolutions, or very visually simple and 2D games, smoothly.
Signing is not required to simply publish to the Windows Store because the store signs it for you. The initial conversion used the DAC to build the original registry and virtual file system, but it wasn’t perfect. During testing, the application would fail and it was difficult to debug because the installation folder is read-only and the logs were attempting to write to that directory. Rather than changing the code of The Great Whale Road, we were able to run the executable outside of the AppX by unzipping it and running the executable directly. This allowed the log files to be written to the restricted folder. Those logs told us that the DAC had renamed a shader file by replacing spaces in the name with %20. We were able to manually rename the file, repackage the AppX using MakeAppx.exe, and the game was ready to play. “We were pleasantly surprised with the straightforward conversion process and how few code changes were required to get ‘The Great Whale Road’ published into the Windows Store. Even that amount pales in comparison to the US$37 billion in damages caused by the Sobig.F virus, which stopped computer traffic in Washington DC and grounded Air Canada for a while. And then there’s the Mydoom virus, which caused such cyber bloating that it’s believed to have slowed worldwide internet traffic by 10% the day of its release. Yes, there is a tiny, tiny subset of “good” computer viruses - such as the Cruncher virus, which compresses every file that it infects and theoretically tries to help by saving precious hard disk space. For example, there’s a virus out there labelled Linux.Wifatch which appears to do nothing other than keeping other viruses out of your router. Linux.Wifatch is itself a virus - it infects a device without its user’s consent and coordinates its actions through a peer-to-peer network - but instead of hurting you, it acts as a sort of security guard. Other “well-intentioned” viruses want to act like a vaccine in that they force people, corporations and governments to strengthen their safety measures and therefore become able to repel genuine threats.
