The Evolution of the (Epyx) Games

Walking through Golden Gate Park one weekend, watching bicyclists and skateboarders doing tricks for the crowds, Matt Householder’s wife Candi suggested that Epyx should use those sorts of sports in their next Games game. But there’s a bit more than that to be said about California Games‘s origins, in terms of both universals and the specific context of the mid-1980s. In the case of the former, there’s the eternal promised land of California itself that’s been a part of the collective mythical landscape of Americans and non-Americans alike almost from the moment that California itself existed as a term of geography: Hollywood, Route 66, Disneyland, the Sunset Strip, the Beach Boys, palm trees, hot rods, surfboards, and of course bikinis and the sun-kissed beach bunnies who fill them out so fetchingly. “Go west, young man!” indeed. California Games combined this eternal California with a burgeoning interest amongst the young in what would come to be called “extreme sports” that saw many a teenager picking up BMX or half-pipe skateboarding.  This data was written by G SA Content Generator Demover sion!

These programs were called Case Studies. Students such as Thadius Schultheis and Caspian Jolly Van Bodgraven helped revolutionize the program. This practice was discontinued as of the 2014-15 school year and replaced with optional labs that teach concepts. The Big Integer case study was in use prior to 2000. It was replaced by the Marine Biology case study. 2003, then in Java, for use with the A and AB examinations. It served as an example of object-oriented programming (OOP) embedded in a more complicated design project than most students had worked with before. The case study was designed to allow the College Board to quickly test a student's knowledge of object oriented programming ideas such as inheritance and encapsulation while requiring students to understand how objects such as "the environment", "the fish", and the simulation's control module interact with each other without having to develop the entire environment independently, which would be quite time-consuming. The case study also gives all students taking the AP Computer Science exams with a common experience from which to draw additional test questions.

Various manufacturers started producing PCI busboards for the A1200, A3000 and A4000, allowing standard Amiga computers to use PCI cards such as graphics cards, Sound Blaster sound cards, 10/100 Ethernet cards, USB cards, and television tuner cards. Other manufacturers produced hybrid boards that contained an Intel x86 series chip, allowing the Amiga to emulate a PC. PowerPC upgrades with Wide SCSI controllers, PCI busboards with Ethernet, sound and 3D graphics cards, and tower cases allowed the A1200 and A4000 to survive well into the late nineties. Expansion boards were made by Richmond Sound Design that allow their show control and sound design software to communicate with their custom hardware frames either by ribbon cable or fiber optic cable for long distances, allowing the Amiga to control up to eight million digitally controlled external audio, lighting, automation, relay and voltage control channels spread around a large theme park, for example. See Amiga software for more information on these applications.

A new tool allows people at risk from domestic abuse to quickly curate the content and permissions they share with their partner’s accounts, as well as other devices that they may be logged into. Apple’s in-box apps also see updates here. Most notably, Photos plugs into a new iCloud Shared Photo Library feature aimed at helping families sync all their images between their Apple devices. It’s useful for holidays and day trips alike. Maps picks up multi-stop navigation with up to 15 stops per trip, while Safari kills off passwords and introduces more secure passkeys. Health gets medication tracking, and a new Fitness app is being made available for those who don’t have Apple Watches but still want to track basic activity. What about the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro? Apple launched the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro with iOS 16 at its “Far Out” event in September.
